Formerly known as Buy.com which was founded in 1997 by Scott Blum. When the company first launched, they only sold computers and electronics, but eventually expanded into many other categories. In 2006 Buy.com expanded their selection even further by allowing other merchants to sell on their site; similar to how merchants can sell on Amazon. In May 2010, Buy.com was acquired by Rakuten, Inc. which is Japan’s biggest e-commerce company. Today Rakuten US continues to sell general merchandise and their marketplace is still open to other merchants. The Rakuten daily deal spotlights one main deal from a random category and countless side deals organized by category.
